Nataliya - Connecting Waterloo Community

Nataliya

When Nataliya began volunteering at St John's Waterloo, she was looking for more than just something to do. She wanted to improve her English, meet new people and feel part of her local community.

Through the Connecting Waterloo Community partnership, Nataliya found exactly that. Over the past eight months, volunteering on the reception team has helped her build confidence, strengthened her communication skills and develop a real sense of belonging. Welcoming visitors each week has also given her the opportunity to practise her English in a supportive environment while making a positive contribution to the community.

Reflecting on her experience, Nataliya says volunteering has helped her settle into life locally, understand British culture and build meaningful friendships. She particularly values the warm and welcoming atmosphere, where she feels trusted, supported and appreciated.

Today, Nataliya encourages others to volunteer, believing it is one of the best ways to develop new skills, meet people and become part of the community.

"Volunteering has given me confidence, helped me improve my English and introduced me to wonderful people. It has made me feel that I truly belong here." – Nataliya
