“I welcome the sound of a baby crying,” says Noreen Carr. “It’s a healthy sound. It’s a baby expressing themselves.”
It’s not what many parents expect to hear when they walk into a baby class for the first time. But that single sentence captures what makes Coin Street’s baby-led massage programme different. This is not about silencing babies. It’s about listening to them.
Our five-week paid baby-led massage course supports closeness, confidence and calm. Income from paid places directly funds free sessions for families who cannot afford to pay, helping us protect inclusive access across our community.
Noreen is a complementary therapist with more than 15 years’ experience working with babies, children and families. Her practice is grounded in five simple principles: Connection. Patience. Fearlessness. Trust. Love.
“Without bonding,” she says, “there is nothing. You can be the best therapist in the world, but if you don’t connect, it won’t land.”
Each five-week course is shaped around the baby’s needs. Parents are encouraged to follow their baby’s cues, not override them.
“We’ve become a nation of shushing babies,” Noreen explains. “But crying is communication. If we can pause, breathe, and come alongside rather than fix, something shifts.”
In sessions, parents explore the difference between physical and emotional cries. They practise grounding exercises. They massage gently and consistently. They make eye contact. Phones are switched off. The room settles. Over time, something changes.
“You see babies relax into the massage,” Noreen says. “You see parents soften. They settle together.”
Massage can support:
But parents often tell us the impact runs deeper. One mother shared that she had struggled to leave the house for weeks. In her words, “Motherhood is really difficult. I’m struggling.”
Within two sessions, she had connected with two other mums in the group. They began meeting for walks. Then coffee with other classes following. These Mums supported one another through the fog of early parenthood. This is where baby massage becomes a community of like-minded parents.
“They attended three courses together,” Noreen recalls. “They were meeting three times a week. It completely shifted their experience.”
For many families, baby massage is their first experience of Coin Street. Parents may arrive feeling vulnerable. Some are first-time mums, perhaps living far from extended family. Others carry difficult birth stories or are simply exhausted.
“We create a safe space,” Noreen says. “It has to feel safe for people to come back.”
Dads attend, sometimes with grandparents and other family members. Friendships between the mums form naturally. They have even set up WhatsApp groups. Parents stay in touch with one another long after the five weeks end. This is not just a class. It’s often the beginning of a support network that lasts.
Our baby massage programme is offered as a paid five-week course for babies from around six weeks to pre-crawling age.
That paid model is intentional. Income generated from bookings directly funds free places for families who cannot afford to pay. It allows us to:
When you book a place, you’re helping another family access the same care. That matters.
