Anna Banner

I used to live in Waterloo, just opposite Coin Street on Cornwall Road. My grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins also lived on Cornwall Road and other family members were dotted around the borough, there were a lot of us. My roots were there.

Years passed, and I moved away, but I was always back ‘home’ visiting family and friends.  A friend told me of a dance ‘keep fit’ class that Coin Street were running for local residents and Coin Street kindly allowed me as an ‘ex’ resident to join the class.

That class transformed my life!  Not only did I make lots of new friends and get fit, but it also awakened in me the sheer joy of dancing that had been forgotten. Dancing is such a lovely way to keep fit and when you are doing it with other people it’s such fun!

I am still dancing at 78 years old, still absolutely loving it and still doing it at Coin Street!  I have Coin Street to thank for that.

The point of this trip down memory lane is, that Coin Street have this huge ‘hug’ that embraces lots of people. Someone like me, who isn’t local anymore, but who has and will always have a piece of their heart in Waterloo, and Coin Street recognise that.

If dancing isn’t your thing, there are lots of other activities on offer at Coin Street, please ‘have a go’. I promise you that you will be welcomed with open arms, have fun, make new friends, get fitter, happier and it could transform your life, like it did mine.

Coin Street is what community is all about, they are a kind and caring bunch of people who help in so many ways and have served the borough for 40 years. Well done them!
