Hashi Mohamed

Chair of CSS and member of Change Working Group

I am a barrister and author living in London. I specialise in planning and environment law. I represent local authorities, housebuilders and communities across England and Wales. In January 2020, I published my first book on my own personal story and social mobility: People Like Us: What it takes to make it in Modern Britain. In September 2022, I released my second book on the housing crisis, how it is affecting the lives of so many millions and what we can do about it. It is titled A Home of One's Own. 

I joined the board of Coin Street Secondary Housing Co-operative in 2020, and was elected Chair in March 2023. 

Joy Walton

Deputy Chair of CSS and Member of Nominations Committee and Governance Committee

I qualified as a Chartered Company Secretary in 2016 and since then I have held a number of senior governance positions. My most recent role was ‘Head of Governance and Company Secretary’ at Scope, the national disability charity. However, I have spent most of my career in London local government or housing association roles. I have lived experience as a social housing tenant. In Westminster, I was the treasurer of the local tenants’ and residents’ association. As a representative, I attended many meetings and championed the rights of residents to access high quality homes and services and influenced a number of outcomes.

I am excited about bringing my skills and experience to helping Coin Street optimise its governance structures and processes and helping it to continue to be fit for the future.

Deputy Chair of CSS, Member of Compliance Action Working Group, Complaints Officer, and Health and Safety Officer

I have a background in Media, Retail and Social Housing Management and am currently CEO of Chisel Housing Association. Living locally in North Lambeth, I am motivated by social justice, and am passionate about ending homelessness. In my day job I transform housing management departments to put the residents central to all they do. I lead Chartered Institute of Housing trips overseas to look at housing management and development in other countries, and I founded HouseProud, the network for LGBT+ people working in social housing.

I'm most excited to be sharing my energy and housing knowledge, and passion to make co-ops a viable and relevant solution to the housing crisis in the UK.

David Holmes

Treasurer of CSS and Member of Coin Street’s Group Audit and Risk Committee

I have experience in senior financial leadership roles in urban regeneration, engineering, education and social housing. Governance roles in a medical charity, the local government pension scheme and social housing. Strong analytical and team building skills, my recent executive projects have included campus rationalisation and development, re-financing and business turnaround.

I am looking forward to helping to shape the strategic change management plan to align with regulatory requirements whilst maintaining the founding housing co-operative ethos.

Nic Bliss

Member of CSS and Change Working Group

I provide governance and other support to housing co-ops in the Midlands.  A long-term member and treasurer of a Birmingham housing co-operative until 2021, I retired from my Policy Director role at the Confederation of Co-operative Housing (CCH) in 2022.  As a founding and volunteer member of the CCH, I became a leading national campaigner for housing co-operatives and for tenants of social housing.  Subsequently, I became employed by the CCH for my governance, policy, financial and housing management expertise, producing the CCH’s governance and policy guidance for housing co-operatives. Authoring several texts on the development of the co-operative housing sector, both in the UK and internationally, as well as working for many years as a leading national tenant representative, I worked closely with various UK and Welsh Governments, Housing Ministers and policy officers to deliver community empowerment and community-led housing strategies.  

I have worked with numerous housing co-operatives across the country as well as with tenants and staff of many housing associations and local authorities, providing training, development, policy and governance advice. I am firmly committed to implementing co-operative values and principles in the housing context and have extensive practical experience and expertise on how to make these principles come alive and deliver benefits for people and communities.

Irandeep Cooner

I have over 8 years experience working in the Housing Industry. In this time I have worked in Supported Housing, Housing Services (in which I dealt with Tenancy, Lettings & Income), Repairs and Development giving me insight an into the many key areas of housing. I have a Bachelors Degree in Law and a Masters in Quantity Surveying. I currently work as a Housing Consultant supporting local authorities and non profits on their affordable housing developments and policy.

Nimisha Patel Linked In

I have over 20 years experience of working in the housing sector, working my way up from being a housing trainee to Assistant Director of Housing Management at LB Haringey. I also have over 10 years experience of working in the resident-led/cooperative housing sector. In addition I sit on the London board of the Chartered Institute of Housing, and am an active mentor with the CIH, Housing Diversity Network and Leading from the Front women’s network. I am committed to staff development and improving the resident experience.

I’m really excited about being part of improving services for residents.

Martin Medlycott

Member of Coin Street’s Group Audit and Risk Committee and Governance Committee

I have 20 Years commercial experience with a focus on technology enablements, digital transformation, and business process optimisation, within regulated environments.

I also have sector experience across Utilities, Finance, Media, Ecommerce and, for the past 7 years, Housing.

As the Chief Information Officer and Data Protection Officer of Metropolitan Thames Valley Housing, I have led a comprehensive digital transformation, integrating advanced data analytics and AI to enhance our business management.

My focus on strategic IT service delivery and robust enterprise application deployment has realised value, streamlined operations, and improved service quality, reflecting directly in a high customer satisfaction score.

Simon Basey

Member of CSS’s Nominations Committee and Change Working Group

Simon has 15 years experience working in commodity trading, first as an oil trader and later leading trading teams for BP in London and Singapore. Prior to this, he ran a financial research institute having completed a Law degree.

He is skilled in strategic planning, risk management and overseeing commercial delivery in complex organisations and environments. 
 
More recently, he has been working extensively with purpose-driven organisations, with a focus on housing and property - he is currently a board member at Housing for Women and Hastings Commons Land Trust, and helped to found the Hastings Housing Alliance.

He has extensive knowledge of residential property and development and manages a rental portfolio in the South East of England.

Robert Carroll

Member of CSS and Compliance Action Working Group

I have worked in housing for over 15 years for different housing associations and contractors. I am currently Head of Property and Estate Services for SW9 community Housing. I bring a wealth of experience in asset management, compliance, social value and building safety.

I am qualified in the field of Development, Housing, Urban Regeneration and Community Development, which allows me to have a whole view of people, places and spaces.

I am passionate about driving change to deliver better services to those living in social housing. I have lived experience as a social housing tenant and seek that residents are at the heart of the decision making to deliver better outcomes for the local community.
 
I am relishing the opportunity to bring my skills and experience to Coin Street to align with regulatory requirements while maintaining the housing Co-op ethos.

Kara Tomes-Meek

Member of CSS and Compliance Action Working Group

I’ve worked in the social housing sector for 15 years, spanning across repairs, reinvestment, development, strategic asset management and sustainability. I am an accredited Practitioner of the Institute of Environmental Managers Association, and my earlier studies included Construction Management at the University College of Estate Management.
 
I was enrolled into Future London Leaders in 2022, a programme supporting London’s most promising practitioners, with a focus on regeneration, housing, transport, infrastructure, and economic development.

I was also a winner of the Climate Champion Powerlist 2022 at the Unlock Net Zero Awards, which recognises individual contributions to climate action across the UK housing and built environment sectors. 
 
I’m really excited to share my passion and knowledge in sustainability and asset management with Coin Street.

Marcia Gillings

Member of CSS and Compliance Action Working Group

Marcia is a Chartered Surveyor, MRICS, and an MSc in Real Estate Development and Investment with over 30 years of experience working for Local authorities, Housing Associations and a Government Agency, now Homes England. 

Her experience covers housing development, asset management and investment management. Her most recent role was with the London Boroughs of Richmond and Wandsworth as Strategic Property Manager, helping to deliver Wandsworth’s 1000 homes housing development programme, delivering mixed used development schemes, and a range of projects connected with asset management of the operational and commercial portfolios for both boroughs. 

Newly, semi-retired, Marcia is embarking on consultancy and non-executive career.
