Mary takes part in our Gentle Gardening sessions on Tuesday afternoons.
Mary is a regular at our gentle gardening sessions which take place within Bernie Spain Gardens. She decided to join the group because she loves spending time outdoors. Mary uses a wheelchair and since suffering a stroke she has found gardening challenging at times.
Despite this, Mary loves the weekly sessions and even in the rain she relishes the fresh air and time in nature. When Mary isn’t learning about plant species and worms, she has enjoyed day trips to Kew Gardens with the group and conversations they’ve had over the healthy lunch we provide.
Mary praises gentle gardening for being an accessible activity through which she’s been able to make friends, engage in discussion and feel a sense of belonging.
She told us that attending gentle gardening has improved her confidence and she has been inspired to create an outdoor wellbeing space at home. Now, gardening is a great conversation starter for Mary and helps her exchange new ideas with family and friends.
