Coin Street has some new neighbours!

Coin Street has welcomed a whopping five new businesses to the area in the past couple of weeks.  Our new neighbours certainly bringing a new energy and lease of life to the area!  Gabriel’s Wharf has welcomed the Caribbean restaurant Limin’ Beach Club, Hola Guacamole and our new vintage clothing store; Hartex.

We also welcome The Green Room and outdoor market; StreetEat, which has been brought to us by the amazing people at Underbelly.

Coin Street’s site, with abundant outdoor space, has allowed our new businesses to open safely, adhering to strict social distancing and hygiene measures, while making the most of the British summer!

Let’s take a look at what our new businesses have to offer!

Limin’ Beach Club
Limin’ Beach Club is bringing the Caribbean to the South Bank! Housed in Gabriel’s Wharf and furnished with sand, palm trees and a barbeque, visitors are invited to enjoy Limin’s Caribbean menu. Highlights include Limin’s famous Jerk Chicken, Mango, Beer & Beetroot Salmon and a cocktail menu inspired by different it’s Caribbean roots. These include Rumgria Spritz, Trini-tea and Pina Colada among others.

Limin’ was founded by Sham Mahabir, a native to Trinidad and Tobago, whose mission is to promote the food, sounds and flavours of his home to Londoners.  His has a mission to promote “liming” (or “hanging out”) as a way of life.

Sham tells us; “We started as a pop-up in Old Spitalfields Market in 2018. It’s hard to believe that we are now at Gabriel’s Wharf. It’s been quite a journey! With staycation and outside dining being talked about, we adapted our concept to a mixture of Ibiza cool with Caribbean food, energy and a beach. We wanted to create the perfect place to escape, to meet friends, to feel the sand between your toes and the sun on your face. In essence, this is what liming is about!”

The Green Room
The Green Room is an open-air neighbourhood garden serving home-baked pizzas and cocktails, with a menu guided by sustainability, making as much as possible in-house, from the team behind LINO, Kitty Hawk, and Whyte & Brown. The grounds are tended by Bankside Open Spaces Trust, an environmental charity that transforms and preserves open spaces in London.

Menu highlights include sourdough pizzas from LINO’s Richard Falk, as well as Whyte & Brown’s chicken burger; LINO’s house croquettes; and dishes that reflect the seasons. The Kitty Hawk bartenders have curated a drinks menu that draws inspiration from The Green Room garden.

Wright & Bell’s Managing Director, Sarah Clark explains: “We’re so thrilled to be part of the South Bank neighbourhood. It has been a difficult period with our City businesses remaining closed. But, The Green Room is a glimmer of light that will allow us to retain more of our wonderful team. We’ve also found a kindred spirit with our landlord, Coin Street who are a non-profit organisation creating amazing opportunities; from giving families and children the best start in life through family support, to creating and maintaining high quality living, work and play spaces. We’re really excited to introduce ourselves to the community.”

StreetEat
Underbelly presents StreetEat from 24 July-10 October 2020, an open-air market including street food from Hola Guacamole, Lukumade Doughnut Tales, Katsutopia, Kurbside Kitchen, The London Grilled Fish Company, Simply Falafel, Smoketeers and Coco Labelle. Free to enter and completely outdoors, StreetEat brings together the finest independent street food traders, open-air bars, socially distanced seating pods and free live performances from musicians, DJs, cabaret performers and singers.

Ed Bartlam and Charlie Wood, Directors of Underbelly, says; “We are simply over the moon that Underbelly can again start doing what we love the most – entertaining Londoners with our pop-up worlds of live performance, independent street food and great bars. Our StreetEat sites will clearly be different to what has gone before, but we can still promise a great Underbelly atmosphere, the finest of street food, awesome (and free!) entertainment alongside strict social distancing and hygiene measures. And we’re all outdoors! Most importantly, we want to support local artists and independent food operators by providing a platform for them to start trading and performing again in their local communities.”

HolaGuacamole
Not only is HolaGuacamole a highlight of the StreetEat Festival along the Southbank, they’re also a new addition to the Gabriel’s Wharf family. Starting at Camden Market in 2013, HolaGuacamole proves that street food could be healthy, and very tasty. As such, HolaGuacamole prepared all their meals using only natural ingredients, and using aromatic herbs and spices.

Now that HolaGuacamole is opening up their first store at Gabriel’s Wharf, they are still guided by these principles of serving fresh and delicious Mexican cuisine. Their menu includes; burritos, quesadillas, nachos, tacos and fajitas.

HolaGuacamole believes the secret to their success lies in their unique recipes, especially in their sauces! Prepared from scratch, they are a combination of flavours using herbs, vegetables and citrus, all sourced locally of course!

The guys at HolaGuacamole hope to keep the street market vibe at their new store. They are strict believers that food tastes better when served with passion!

Hartex
Last, but by no means least, we have our final addition to the Gabriel’s Wharf community; Hartex. Hartex is a vintage store that specialises in t-shirts, hats, bags and other accessories. Starting off on the London-based, peer-to-peer social shopping app; Depop, Hartex has had it’s roots in London’s fashion scene from the very start.

Harry Sims, owner of Hartex tell us; “I’m proud to call Hartex my shop but I’m also delighted to see Hartex bring people together, over a common love and interest in sport, music, politics, film etc. Everyone is welcome at the shop, whether you want to buy something or just have a browse, a chat, a drink. We’ve got ya.”

We’re truly excited by the range and talent all our new businesses have to offer! Next time you’re by the Southbank there’s a lot of new places you can try out.
