“The personal stories and experiences shared by the community provide a unique perspective that I wouldn't get solely from the lab, making my research more meaningful and relevant to the world beyond academia.” - Sevban Dogan Ekici, PhD student
Since partnering in 2021, Coin Street and the School of Biomedical Engineering & Imaging Sciences have built a collaborative relationship grounded in open dialogue and shared learning. Through Coin Street’s role on the King’s Communities Health and Research Advisory Board, we contribute local insight and lived experience, helping ensure research reflects real community priorities.
This partnership has delivered meaningful benefits for families and local people. Our Family and Children’s Centre received the King’s Engaged Research Award 2025 for co‑designed workshops delivered by King’s to support parents of neurodivergent children in early years. King’s has also enriched our over 50s arts programme by exploring health imaging through creative practice.
Volunteers from King’s have strengthened our services in practical ways: they have transformed our nursery garden, delivered interactive sessions for the children, and volunteered at Gentle Gardening sessions. Students have volunteered at youth clubs and tutoring sessions and will soon join our community challenge event to promote inclusive volunteering.
Thank you!
