How did a local community transform a largely derelict part of central London into a thriving neighbourhood with homes, gardens, community facilities, shops, restaurants and cultural spaces?
Join a member of the Coin Street team for a guided walking tour of our 13-acre neighbourhood on London’s South Bank and discover the people, places and ideas that have shaped Coin Street.
Our story grew out of a community campaign to secure the future of this important riverside site. Today, Coin Street is home to housing co-operatives, public parks and gardens, a neighbourhood centre, independent businesses and cultural organisations, alongside programmes supporting local families, children, young people and older people.
Led by a member of our team, the tour explores some of the key places and stories that have shaped Coin Street and the wider South Bank. Along the way, you’ll hear about the community campaign that helped secure the site, the development of our housing co-operatives, the creation of new public spaces and the partnerships that continue to shape our neighbourhood.
Tours are particularly suitable for community and voluntary organisations, universities and students, architects and planners, professionals interested in regeneration and community development, and businesses wanting to understand more about the neighbourhood in which they work. They can also provide an engaging team activity for organisations based locally or visiting the South Bank.
Guided tours last approximately 75 minutes.
We recommend groups of between 5 and 15 people so that everyone can hear the guide, ask questions and get the most from the experience. If you are interested in arranging a tour for a larger group, please get in touch and we can discuss what may be possible.
Our guided neighbourhood tours are free to attend. We invite groups to consider making a voluntary donation to support Coin Street’s community programmes.
We want our guided tours to be as accessible as possible. The tour takes place outdoors around the Coin Street neighbourhood and involves approximately 75 minutes of walking and standing. A step-free route can be arranged. If you or anyone in your group has accessibility requirements, please let us know when you enquire so that we can plan the tour accordingly. Seating and comfort breaks can also be discussed in advance.
