Who will be there?
The group is run by clinicians from the Perinatal Team. It is a small group with approximately 8 parents who have recently had a baby. All of the parents that attend are either under the care of the Perinatal Mental Health Team or attendees of the Children’s Centre.
Do I have to attend?
No! It is your choice to attend the group and you might want to take some time to think about it.
You might also want to talk it through with someone you know. Once you have decided to attend, it is important that you do your best to attend all of the sessions.
The reason for this is that the sessions link to each other and it makes it easier to follow and you will gain more from it.
Can my baby be with me?
Yes! Your baby is more than welcome and a crèche is available during the group so that you can focus on the content of the sessions. If you have older children, we hope the timings will allow for them to be at school or nursery and for you to be finished in time to collect them after the group.
What are the sessions like?
We try to ensure that all of the sessions are as relaxed as possible. We use videos that have been produced specifically for this group to show clips of the main ideas involved. These videos will be shared on the screen. After watching the clips, we spend some time thinking and talking about them. There is no pressure to talk - sometimes you may want to speak and other times you may not want to talk and may prefer to sit and listen.
If you are interested in this group or if you have any questions about it, please inform your health care professional from the Perinatal Team or one of Coin Street's Early Years Educators in the Family Support Team.
