Our ‘Maker of the Month’ series takes a closer look at the talented designer-makers at Oxo Tower Wharf on London’s South Bank. Each month highlights a new designer-maker and explores each maker’s story, product, and creative process.
As part of our November instalment of the series, we spoke to Paris France, one half of the hairdressing duo Bonney and France Hair at naedlae, a creative hair studio at Oxo Tower Wharf. Paris is a professional freelance hairdresser specialising in cutting and styling, while Claire specialises in colour.
In Paris’ own words, she says:
“I started hairdressing at the age of 16 as an apprentice at Vidal Sassoon. I was there for 11 years and I got to travel around the world with them teaching. After 11 years, I travelled around South America and then worked in a beach bar in the south of France for 5 months! I then started working at a salon called Radio, where I met Claire, and worked there for 10 years until we both decided to go independent.
I’ve been working at Oxo Tower Wharf for just over a year. I love working in the creative environment of independent businesses, it’s amazing being able to walk around and see what everyone else is up to.
I absolutely love working in our studio by the river Thames, centrally located on London’s South Bank. I cycle in to work, so it’s amazing taking in the views of London over Blackfriars Bridge. The South Bank is always super busy and there are so many great places to visit, two of my favourites are Tate Modern and BFI Southbank.
At naedlae studio, I cut and style beautiful hair! I’ve been a hairdresser for many years so I’ve got quite a strong clientele, and I just love making people feel beautiful.
I think it’s important to support independent businesses as you get a much more personal experience, and the outcome will always be something a bit more tailored to your individuality. The studio is quite intimate, so we can work in a much more relaxed way.
Claire and I have worked in the hair industry for over 20 years. I’ve always cut hair and Claire’s always coloured, so you can say we’re experts in our field! The consultation and cutting service I provide is always tailored to the client, from their personality to the texture of their hair and the shape of their face.
If I had to describe my hairdressing services in three words, I’d say: ‘Tailored, personal, and playful!’”.
