Bargehouse: a space fit for a king, now a leading space for creatives

How many central London venues can you think of that can host a trendy pop-up croquet bar one week and a Mexican mezcal festival the next?

...and this doesn’t even begin to scratch the surface of Bargehouse’s breadth of usage over the years.

Bargehouse transformation

Bargehouse is a vast, raw industrial space which is ready to be transformed by large scale group exhibitions, design showcases, immersive experiences, art fairs and more. Its original features and interesting textures lend themselves perfectly to powerful exhibitions.

Bargehouse vastness

Spread over five floors, the rooms vary in size, each with its own unique character. Its vastness isn’t realised until you climb the stairs, with each room getting bigger until you reach the top floor where the room spans the whole length of the 47-metre-long building.

Part of the iconic Oxo Tower Wharf, it is located midway along the walking route between the National Theatre, Southbank Centre and British Film Institute at one end and Shakespeare’s Globe and Tate Modern at the other. With a rich history of uses, from King James I’s Royal Barge House to meatpacking warehouse, Bargehouse now stands in its untouched state, featuring five floors of highly adaptable event space.

This is a building that inspires many – its popularity stemming from this raw industrial feel combined with exhibitors’ freedom to let loose on transforming all 13 rooms to satisfy each of their visions. The venue offers the opportunity to create a unique narrative, not always possible in traditional gallery settings. Bargehouse has played host to an eclectic mix of events on numerous occasions, from high fashion shows to exhibitions, product launches and photo shoots to experiential marketing, immersive theatre and interactive experiences for charity donors.

Recently Caesarstone, a quartz surface for interiors manufacturer, transformed Bargehouse into a glamorous showroom to launch their ground-breaking new product. Jon Stanley, Caesarstone’s UK VP Marketing, commented: “The event was a tremendous success, with Bargehouse providing the perfect backdrop for the new industrial styled Metropolitan Collection.”

Hannah Aldis, from live event experience company The Manual, added:

“Right from our very first site visit, we were instantly transfixed by Bargehouse and its raw, untouched charm. There was no doubt that it would provide a stunning backdrop and juxtaposition to Caesarstone and their new Metropolitan range. Paired with a friendly, attentive and competent team, both off and on-site, our experience from start to finish was faultless and, more importantly, enjoyable. We would love to work with Bargehouse again in the future.”

Bargehouse also provided an exciting backdrop for London College of Fashion MA18: Media and Communication graduate show during London Fashion Week.

London College of Fashion, UAL, said “Bargehouse provided a beautiful setting for our MA Media and Communications Exhibition. We received excellent service from both the Events Manager and Venue Supervisor and were also very happy with the service provided by their recommended suppliers. We would not hesitate to recommend this venue and look forward to working with the team again in future.”
