Best Seat in the House

Best Seat in the House

WaterAid have teamed up with the Rankin agency and a host of artists, fashion designers and celebrities to transform the humble toilet into a work of art.

Their aim is to raise awareness of the 1 in 5 people who do not have access to a decent toilet. This affects people’s health and dignity. A third of schools lack these vital facilities, meaning millions of girls stay at home during their period, preventing them from fulfilling their potential.

Come along to see art by Bambi, Boy George, Carrie Reichardt, Charlotte Colbert, Chila Burman, Daisy Collingridge, George Morton-Clark, Gina Soden, Harry Hill, Haseebah Ali, Hayden Kays, Jessica Albarn, Joe Sweeney, Laila Majid, Liaqat Rasul, Martin Parr, Nettie Wakefield, Ozwald Boateng, Pam Hogg, Pure Evil, Roo Dhissou, Seema Mattu, Soozy Lipsey, Val Garland and Dame Zandra Rhodes.

The artworks, which include a golden throne, punk art, seats decorated in beautiful fabric, and a lucky toilet seat, will be displayed at this free exhibition at gallery@oxo from Friday 4 – Sunday 6 February. They will be displayed as museum pieces, highlighting the inaccessibility of toilets to millions around the world.

The designs are fun but carry an important message – that everyone everywhere needs a decent toilet.
