Development of Gabriel's Wharf

Gabriel's Wharf shop fronts

Gabriel’s Wharf is a popular riverside destination for people who live, work and visit the area.

Originally a cash and carry warehouse, Coin Street Community Builders used Gabriel's Wharf as a construction compound until 1988 when, in partnership with the then operators of Camden Lock Market, it was opened to the public alongside retail designer studios, housed in factory built garage units with shop fronts added. Restaurants and other food outlets have been added over time.

The blank wall of the London Studios was painted to provide an imaginative trompe d’oeil backdrop. The opening of Gabriel’s Wharf in 1988 brought life to an area that had long been derelict and signalled the start of the rebirth of the South Bank.

As ever in our community and the area it is in, there is a lot going on and a great deal of change planned or taking place. Our plans for the permanent development of Gabriel’s wharf remain unchanged; to provide a nursing care home and improve other services and facilities for our community.
