Coin Street Community Swap & Share
On Saturday 10 March, over 400 local people arrived at the neighbourhood centre for Coin Street Community Swap and Share. Last year saw the launch of our fun filled community days which welcomed hundreds of community members into the building for entertaining activities and information about the local area – Coin Street Community Swap and Share was no exception!
Our focus was sharing, recycling and celebrating entrepreneurship. The day was filled with fun activities from pottery classes, workshops, live music, massages, gardening sessions, stalls from local organisations and much more. Residents brought their bikes to be checked and fixed by Dr Bike. It was great to see pre-loved toys, books and clothes being exchanged at our Swaparama stand. With such a wide range of interesting activities, it’s no wonder why it was so popular.
With the help of local businesses, we transformed our centre into a market place and enterprise zone. Guests browsed the vintage and handmade stalls curated by Blue Moon Fair for the perfect for Mother’s Day gift. Local entrepreneurs who attend our Upgrade Yourself enterprise programme, also exhibited their homemade products. It was great to see so many members of our community supporting local businesses.
Those with children headed up to our family zone for an all-day disco, party games, face painting and jewellery making workshops. Rambert also took to the floor for a family dance workshop.
We especially loved making our very own feminist fanny pack, the anti-knife crime T-shirt design and print workshop, Ceilidh dancing accompanied by Ceilidh Tree band and taking part in the chocolate making classes led by Cocoa Exchange.
We’d like to say a huge thank you to those who came along and those who lent a pair of helping hands; our fantastic partners, local organisations and business owners, workshop leaders, volunteers and staff. It was lovely to see so many members of the community getting together to have fun and support each other. We hope you enjoyed the day and look forward to welcoming you to future activities and community events.
Our next community event will be Gabriel’s Wharf Easter Extravaganza on Saturday 31 March. Find more information about this event here.
