Celebrating young people on International Youth Day
12 August marks International Youth Day and we are taking the opportunity to celebrate all the brilliant young people who get involved in the positive programme of activities offered by our Community Programmes team.
Young people are at the heart of much of our community work, as we aim to provide a space for them in which to create, socialise and develop key citizenship skills.
During the summer holidays we have been offering a Summer Sports Camp for children aged 8-12. This is a great opportunity for young people to make new friends, try different sports and go on local trips. Until now, they have been enjoying a wide-range of sporting activities, ranging from basketball and football to Go Karting and BMX cycling (pictured above). Today they are off enjoying a boat trip to the Cutty Sark (see picture below).
They have been collaborating to plan their own sessions and have really been enjoying having a space in which to run them. Activities have included accessing the music studio, decorating their hands with henna and making nutritious smoothies, pizzas and cupcakes (pictured below). Next week they have planned a trip to go trampolining at Salmon Youth Centre.
We have enjoyed collaborating with Blackfriars Settlement this summer and plan to continue working with them this autumn.
