Young at Heart Party 2017
On Friday 6 January, we hosted our annual senior celebration, Young at Heart. Now in it’s 17th year, the event was the most popular yet with over 80 local seniors and members of the community in attendance. Local friends, families and even Young at Heart first-timers arrived in their most glamorous, glittering outfits, ready to ring in 2017 in style.
Guests were welcomed with a glass of fizz and lots took the opportunity to mingle with friends, old and new. Once seated at their tables, attendees enjoyed a delicious three course meal, including turkey with all the trimmings, provided by Coin Street’s conference centre catering company Kudos Delivered for the third year in a row. White and red wine was also generously provided OXO Tower Restaurant, Bar and Brassiere and Studio Six at Gabriel’s Wharf.
Conrad, the resident DJ for the evening, played music from across the eras from sixties swing to recent releases and he also hosted a fun quiz, which was thoroughly enjoyed by all. Once the dessert plates had been tidied away, the dance floor was taken over with waltzes and contemporary routines led by local dance teacher Tracy Burt and one local resident even formed a conga line!
The event, organised by the community programmes team at Coin Street, was made possible with the help of a number of volunteers from Coin Street and the local community. Raffle prizes were kindly donated by The Green Room restaurant (meal for two), London Eye (family ticket), Pizza Express, (£50 voucher), The Mulberry Bush (meal for two) and Millwall FC (family ticket for a league fixture).
Ray, a local senior, told us: “I look forward to the Young at Heart event every January. Loneliness is something that affects the older generation greatly, especially people like me who live alone. I just love socialising… and dancing!”
