The Colombo Centre is a registered charity governed by Coin Street Centre Trust. Income generated from gym membership and hire of the outdoor pitches stays in the neighbourhood. It is used to manage and maintain the facilities and provide a wide range of free and affordable sports and leisure activities for families and children, young people, adults and older people in Waterloo and North Southwark.
In 2004 the Colombo Centre opened four outdoor sports pitches. The opening followed a 4-year local campaign which ended with Lambeth and Southwark Councils transferring 2 derelict sites to the Colombo Centre at no cost, £500,000 being raised from The Big Lottery, London Marathon Charitable Trust, a Southwark Council section 106 fund and Waterloo Project Board SRB.
