Forming the future – Summer programmes volunteer

We are looking for friendly, pro-active and engaging volunteers to support our summer programme for young people. Volunteers will make a real difference to the often challenging lives of children and young people living in inner city London. As a Summer programmes volunteer you will enable us to provide more opportunities for our youth to have fun, learn and be active members of their community in a safe and nurturing environment. Your time will make a huge impact on young people who need positive adult role models. There are a range of opportunities below that you can get involved in.

Creative Takeover of Bargehouse – Tuesday 27 August – Sunday 1 September – we are looking for volunteers to help with set up, running events and invigilating our exciting summer project at Bargehouse for all ages. Please get in touch for more details

Youth Zone for 8-19yrs+ – Tues, Weds, Thurs, 4-8pm, from 13 – 29 August.
We need volunteers for our new Youth Zone. A space for creativity, relaxation and having fun. There’s youth gym and fitness for over 14s, the chance to design and produce garments and media with professionals or enjoy the games zone. We need volunteers to support young people to have a great summer where they can run their own projects, learn new skills, create music and clothing, take part in health and fitness sessions and improve their wellbeing!

Summer Splash Wellbeing week at Archbishops Park – 27-30 August – we need volunteers to help run a range of activities including a tea party on Tuesday 27 August, fitness and wellbeing session on Wednesday 28, art on Thursday 29 August and gardening on Friday 30 August.

Kitchen Social – 12-30 August 9.30am-1pm
Coin Street are working with Mayors Fund for London to deliver the Kitchen Social project providing healthy meals for young people over the summer holidays. With no free school meals or teacher support, hunger and social isolation are a reality for many young Londoners. This project aims to address these issues through providing healthy food and activities. We need volunteers to help plan, cook and serve the meals. Food and Hygiene online training available.

Sports Camp – Mon-Fri, 12noon – 3pm, from 12 July – 30 August.
Fun summer sessions for young people ages 8-12 years provide a safe and friendly space to do sport and games, outdoor activities, arts and crafts, cookery, workshops and trips.

Other programmes
We continue to run our weekly gardening; coffee mornings and Saturday feel good sessions as well and have a number of events where we will need support:
Gentle Gardening – Tuesdays 11.30-2pm at Colombo Centre– take part in planting, watering weeding and harvesting crops
Coffee morning – Thursdays 11am-12 at Colombo Centre – help run our friendly and social coffee morning, open to everyone

Sessions take place at Coin Street neighbourhood centre, 108 Stamford Street, SE1 9NH (fully accessible) and Colombo Centre, 34-68 Colombo Street, London, SE1 8DP (limited accessibility for wheelchairs, upstairs rooms have no life access).

Main duties:
• Help set up for sessions and ensure the space is safe and welcoming
• Welcome young people and parents/carers and complete the register
• Engage young people in activities, workshops, games and sports
• Cook with the young people
• Be a positive role model and listen to young people
• Help tidy up and debrief after the session
• Plan for future sessions
• Be vigilant to any safeguarding or health and safety concerns and flag them up with the appropriate staff member as soon as possible.

As well as looking for volunteers who can ensure the smooth running of our programmes, we are also looking for volunteers who would be willing to take the lead to run elements of the activities

Travel expenses will be reimbursed with provision of receipts
Full induction and training opportunities will be provided
References and DBS check will be required for this role
