Bridging generations – Volunteering with Older People

We have expanded our programme of activities and would love to recruit some enthusiastic volunteers to make a difference to the lives of isolated older people at art, fitness, wellbeing and IT sessions. Join the Community Programmes team as a vital volunteer for our older people’s sessions and help bring joy and friendship to the lives of some of the most isolated members of our community.

Over 50s Art Club and craft session – Every other Friday 11am – 4pm
@Coin Street neighbourhood centre, 108 Stamford Street, SE1 9NH
Calling all creatives. Help tutors and members of the group to run these creative sessions or even run a session for the group yourself.

Saturday Feel Good Club – 11-2pm
@ Colombo Centre, 34-68 Colombo Street, London, SE1 8DP
Wellbeing sessions for older people including spin, stretch, massage and healthy eating. Welcome participants, complete registers and provide refreshments as well as friendship.

Coffee mornings – Thursday 11am-1pm
@ Colombo Centre, 34-68 Colombo Street, London, SE1 8DP
Support local older people to plan and facilitate activities and workshops as well as making teas and coffees and having a friendly chat.

ITC training – TBC
Support local older people to upgrade their skills in using a range of technology including iPads, phones and computers.

Main Duties:

  • Help set up and ensure the space is safe and welcoming
  • Welcome older people and complete the register
  • Engage older people in activities, workshops, games and wellbeing sessions
  • Make refreshments including tea and coffee and healthy snacks
  • Chat and listen to older people
  • Help tidy up and debrief after the session
  • Plan for future sessions
  • Be vigilant to any safeguarding or health and safety concerns and flag them up with the appropriate staff member as soon as possible.

We are expanding our volunteer programme and are keen to involve you in shaping how we work with volunteers to give them more responsibility, recognition and opportunities.

Other Information:

  • Travel expenses will be reimbursed with provision of receipts
  • Full induction and training opportunities will be provided
