Film Club and Refugee Week

On Friday 17 June, we hosted a special Film Club in honour of Refugee Week. It was lovely to see so many of you turn up for an evening of film, debate, music and Middle Eastern snacking.

We screened two films, Hamsa and On The Bride’s Side documenting the struggle refugees face when searching for a more stable life for themselves and their families. Both pictures were well received and provoked interesting discussion about the distressing journeys many displaced people make on a daily basis.

We were also treated to a musical performance from Afghan musician Elaha Soroor who was accompanied by Peyman Heydarian on the santur. They will be performing at SOAS Saturday 2 July at 7pm if you would like to see them again.

Our Girls’ Club were keen to get involved in Refugee Week too and they put their decorative flair to good use by designing some flags.

And while Refugee Week may technically be over (20-26 June), there is still time to catch Arthur Laidlaw’s exhibition Razed: Syrian Ruins at gallery@oxo, Oxo Tower Wharf before it closes this Sunday 3 July.
