Based in the Coin Street neighbourhood centre, minutes from Waterloo station and at the heart of a thriving community, our 84-place day nursery and specialist baby care unit provides high quality, affordable childcare and education for children from 3 months to 5 years. The nursery’s qualified team has an informed educational philosophy that ensures every child develops at their own pace.

We are one of Lambeth’s Enhanced Provision. We receive additional funding and support from Lambeth Council to support children with complex developmental needs. If your child is allocated a place we will discuss with you the needs of your child and how we can offer support.

Professionally qualified staff

All our nursery staff are qualified education professionals fully committed to ensuring that your child experiences a rich and secure learning environment.

Unique learning journeys

Exciting activities are planned to extend each child’s learning and development and broaden horizons, supporting the natural disposition of each child to explore the world in a safe and challenging way, their achievements celebrated in individual portfolios.

Parents as partners

We develop strong, creative partnerships with parents so that we can support and enhance your role as the child’s main educator. We offer sensitive support during the settling-in process, and regular ongoing contact through a key nursery worker. Regular working/studying parent meetings take place to support your child’s learning.

Enabling environments

Coin Street nursery is purpose-designed with interactive areas for a variety of educational activities. A safe outside play area allows children to explore and enjoy their environment, while our Family Room offers privacy for parents and interactive sensory equipment. Children are also taken on educational visits to places of interest.

Healthy eating

Fresh, healthy meals are prepared daily for the children by our chef in the on-site kitchen, supported by dietitian advice. We are proud to have been one of four nurseries nationwide to be shortlisted for the food award in the Nursery World Awards 2017. The award is open to early years settings whose approach to and provision of nutritious food promotes children’s health and well-being.

Opening times

The nursery is open for 50 weeks of the year, 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday.

The nursery will be closed between Christmas day and New Years day and for INSET Days on the following dates:

  • 15 December 2017

This winter the nursery will receive a makeover. We have been working hard to put in place the necessary funds to allow us to make improvements to the nursery, inside and out. We are delighted to say we are embarking on a project to install a new kitchen, replace all the flooring across the nursery, improve the outside play space, and make a series of smaller improvements inside to create a better learning environment for your child.

We have secured financial support from the Department for Education to upgrade the nursery kitchen and from Tesco to green up the outside play space. The trustees of Coin Street Community Builders have also agreed to make a major investment themselves in order to ensure that the nursery continues to meet our commitment to be an inspiring, engaging and stimulating place to get the best care and education in your child’s critical early years.

Given the scale of the improvements planned, the whole works will take 4 weeks to complete. We are keen that this has as little impact on you as possible however, closure of the nursery is unavoidable. We will close on Thursday 14th December and reopen on Monday 8th January. Which is a total of 10 nursery days. (As mentioned above, we are usually closed between Christmas and new year.) 7 of these days will be our staff training days which we will take as a block. (We usually take 6 throughout the year but we have carried 3 over from last year for this closure.) These days have already been taken off your fees at point of starting with us. On Monday 8th the nursery will relocate to a different room within Coin Street to enable us to reopen to you before the works are completed. If the additional 3 days closure falls on your child’s days with us, you will not be charged.

Admissions and costs

Admissions are judged on a number of criteria, and prices vary according to age of child and number of days attending – download rates information below. There are a number of schemes to assist with costs; we are happy to provide advice and assistance to guide you through all of these schemes – please call us on 0207 021 1670.
