Coin Street Nursery
My son got along with his key person as soon as he met her at the home visit where she brought him a bunny rabbit to play with. She is thoughtful sweet and caring, committed to the well being of the children. She made sure that Arturo had a smooth settling in week and he love her!
I respect my key worker's depth of knowledge and confidence in supporting my child to learn and flourish. She is an excellent ambassador for the nursery as she is always cheerful and positive, never failing to explain what they've been doing and what she has taught my child.
We'd like to thank our nursery practitioner for her continuous love and care towards Finn. Paying attention to his individual needs makes us feel really pleased. She is interested in his development and always has time to talk about ways to help him.
Amelia, my daughter, is full of smiles and in her words she feels like a princess after her time in the nursery. Her key worker loves building bonds with the children and it shows!
Based in the Coin Street neighbourhood centre, minutes from Waterloo station and at the heart of a thriving community, our 84-place day nursery and specialist baby care unit provides high quality, affordable childcare and education for children from 3 months to 5 years. The nursery’s qualified team has an informed educational philosophy that ensures every child develops at their own pace.
We are one of Lambeth’s Enhanced Provision. We receive additional funding and support from Lambeth Council to support children with complex developmental needs. If your child is allocated a place we will discuss with you the needs of your child and how we can offer support.
Highly qualified staff
All our nursery staff are qualified to at least level 3 in childcare. This means our staff have the skills they need to look after the children one-on-one if needed, and are fully qualified to understand the child’s care and educational needs. We are pleased to have 5 qualified teachers with degree level education. This means our nursery exceeds the Government’s aim to have 1 graduate per nursery.
Unique learning journeys
At Coin Street nursery, we have staff and children from diverse backgrounds and we believe this should be celebrated and reflected in our activities. That’s why we choose activities that not only extend each child’s learning and development process but also broaden their horizons. We know that each child’s learning process is unique, therefore we support the natural disposition of each child to explore, investigate and discover the things that interest them and celebrate their achievements in portfolios which are shared with parents.
Coin Street nursery is purpose-designed with interactive areas for a variety of educational activities. A safe outside play area allows children to explore and enjoy their environment, while our Family Room offers privacy for parents and interactive sensory equipment. Children are also taken on educational visits to places of interest.
Recent trips include:
- Weekly dance sessions at Rambert
- Weekly football sessions at Colombo Community centre
- China Town to celebrate Chinese New Year
- Tate Modern
- British Transport Museum
- London City Farm
- Forrest School.
We’ve recently refurbished our nursery to ensure that it is the best possible environment for your child to learn, grow and develop. You can read more about this here.
Parents as partners
We develop strong, creative partnerships with parents so that we can support and enhance your role as the child’s main educator. We offer sensitive support during the settling-in process, and regular ongoing contact through a key nursery worker. Regular working/studying parent meetings take place to support your child’s learning.
Our nursery is part of Coin Street’s Ofsted Outstanding Family and Children’s centre. This is often a huge benefit to parents as we offer a wide range of free programmes to help support your child and you along the way.
Award nominated healthy eating
At Coin Street we believe every child should be given the opportunity to get hot, healthy meals. That’s why we have planned our sessions to include at least two meals and snacks, all included in the fees. Our meals are prepared daily by our chef in the on-site kitchen, and are advised by dietitian. You can read more about what Chef Jo does to include more veggies and introduce new foods to children by clicking here.
We are proud to have been one of four nurseries nationwide to be shortlisted for the food award in the Nursery World Awards 2017. The award is open to early years settings whose approach to and provision of nutritious food promotes children’s health and well-being.
The nursery is open for 50 weeks of the year, 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday.
The nursery will be closed on all bank holidays and for INSET Days on the following dates:
